SILVER JUBILEE 1977/DRURY LANE THEATRE - [Item Number 5838]
Large two handled loving cup standing 100mm/4” high and 190mm/7 ˝” wide handle to handle. On the front of the mug in a blue and gold cartouche is a black silhouette of HM with highlights picked out in silver and gold. The cartouche is surmounted by a gold and silver lion and unicorn. The commemoration is in gold around the top and bottom of the rim. On the reverse in a frame of ruby coloured draped curtains is a coloured scene outside of Drury Lane theatre London. Half of the scene is of people entering the threatre in 1977 the other half in the period of King Charles. In gold below is the inscription “1st Patron HM King Charles 11 1663” On the base is the inscription “Commissioned by the Royal general theatrical Fund Association to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of their patron Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11”.
