In 1897 HM Queen Victoria not only celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, but also became the longest serving monarch in history. The event was marked by the market being flooded with items to commemorate the event. Items produced by the established names e.g. Doulton (not yet Royal Doulton) Coalport etc will always be sough after and command a higher price.
The plate illustrated here was manufactured by Dunn Bennett & Co of Burslem, the transfer printing and overall condition is superb, and although of pottery and not porcelain the difference is only noticeable on close inspection.
